As a Happy Birthday to our centenary buddy the NVCO Baker Mallett will be giving back by way of 100 hours service to the community. Each member of staff will be given approximately 4 hours to volunteer their services to a charity of their choice.
1 in 5 people in the UK live below the poverty line. Food banks receive donations, store and distribute food. Julia’s time was spent putting together 3 day emergency food boxes for those in crisis including the homeless, disadvantaged families and people living alone. Food banks are very much reliant on donations and volunteers.
Julia commented, “The experience was very emotional. How must it feel to be a parent collecting this food to feed their family? Putting together 3 days of nutritionally balanced food for someone who might be alone with no cooking facilities was very grounding and moving. The food donations and the dedicated volunteers are a wonderful example of communities at their best, pulling together for those in need”.
