Chairman, Baker Mallett
We do not hire skilled people and motivate them; we hire already motivated people and inspire them to go further.
It is fair to say that my role as Chairman of Baker Mallett is constantly changing. As the smaller, more introverted company that I took charge of 7 years ago, I had direct contact with almost all of our clients and much of our outside world. As that point, it was easy to convey the key messages of our business goals and values as I was still, for the most part, on the front line of our business operations. As the company grew stronger in the marketplace and more diverse (and because I am yet to find someone who can sell me a teleporter), I could see that I needed to place primary emphasis on building self-motivated internal teams who shared my passion for excellence and naturally had that Baker Mallett blueprint of drive and ambition. Who, like me, also loved the feeling you get when you have simply done a brilliant job, whatever the task.
With this in mind, we have worked hard over the last few years to ensure that we have the best people, in the right locations, providing the best possible service…. and I think we have succeeded.
I do not take my position as Chairman lightly and see it as a great privilege to lead an inspired and motivated community of teams who love what they do and above all, come to work every day as an outlet for being the best people that they can be.
As 2020 begins and we say goodbye to our 100th year, my aim for Baker Mallett and for myself, as Walt Disney perfectly put it, is to KEEP MOVING FORWARD – I would perhaps caveat Mr Disney’s statement with the phrase “with purpose”, based on our vision and dedication to be the best we can, which just so happens to create first class outputs.
We have some great plans for this year to help us refocus, realign, reignite, recharge and rediscover, once again, who we are and who we want to be. It’s going to be fun!
