Baker Mallett were appointed as Quantity Surveyor on this project to refurbish the main entrance hall to the University.
The project had to be completed in a short time-scale, as this is a major entry point to the campus for students, teachers and visitors. The works were so extensive that the area had to be closed for the duration of the project and diversionary routes put in place to enable the continuing use of the building.
Removal of a revolving door, refurbishment of the existing terrazzo and faux marble surfaces, improved lighting and application of gold leaf to the column capitols has turned it into an airy inviting space. The installation of ‘Speedlane’ security gates has also assisted with the throughput of up to 600 students.
