Baker Mallett was appointed by Royal Mail Group Limited to provide Quantity Surveying and CDMC services to oversee the pre and post contract works for the construction of a new Mail Centre and offices within an existing building to create Royal Mail’s Home Counties North Mail Centre.
The works comprised of the alteration and adaption of an existing building to create a 16.750m2 Mail Centre; 2,120m2 Delivery Office (140 walk); 1,770m2 administration and welfare area, complete with canteen facility, 3,655m2 under roof parking area.
On completion, part of the parking area was partitioned off to create a Vehicle Services Workshop. New lighting, heating, cooling and ventilation installations were installed throughout. All existing 22Nr dock levellers were replaced. The initial works were completed within six months, to allow the installation of new automated sorting machines.
