Baker Mallett provided Quantity Surveying and CDMC services to the Royal Mail Group’s extension and adaption works at the Tyneside Mail Centre. Baker Mallett also oversaw the pre and post contract works for extenson and adaption works.
The works comprised the demolition of the existing flat dock, constructing a 1,700m2 extension to the arrivals area of the main sorting hall and a new 17 bay flat dock and 4Nr dock levellers. Internally a 42m x 9m two storey new secure Priority Services Locker and offices were constructed along with a mezzanine locker area, and numerous offices refurbished.
On completion, the sorting hall was redecorated, the existing distribution area was opened up and the high bay lighting replaced. All works were undertaken in phases to ensure that Royal Mail’s operation remained live and unaffected.
