Baker Mallett are proud to have acted as Project Manager, Quantity Surveyor and Contract Administrator for the construction of a new Tiger Enclosure at Twycross Zoo.
The enclosure, surrounded by a six-metre fence, provides a show den, back of house dens and keeper and service access. There are five viewing windows into the tiger habitat and a special 15m x 3m glazed walk through tunnel to provide an alternative perspective for visitors.
The new Tiger enclosure is one of the largest purpose-built Sumatran tiger habitats in the UK. The space includes hot rocks to mimic the warmth of their native Indonesia and two outdoor pools.
With less than 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, this new facility at Twycross is incredibly important to the Zoo and the larger conservation and breeding programmes that they are a vital part of. The zoo is home to more than 500 animals of 125 species, including some of the rarest in the world.
