Baker Mallett were appointed by Copeland Borough Council to provide Quantity Surveying and Project Monitoring support on the Whitehaven Townscape Heritage Initiative.
The project involved a series of individual grants being given to property owners for renovations in and around Whitehaven Market Place and James Street, looking to create an attractive gateway for the town centre as a whole.
In total 10 properties were re-developed, 4 new businesses created in vacant properties, 6 new residential properties created, with training and learning opportunities within Whitehaven.
Interaction with the younger generation has been invaluable with a number of walking tours and workshops for in excess of 700 schoolchildren.
Funding for this project came from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Britain’s Energy Coast, Copeland Borough Council and Cumbria County Council.
