To mark the beginning of our yearlong collaboration with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust as Silver Partner for the Starting Blocks Challenge, Chairman Neil Griffiths launched our efforts by “passing the baton” to our first staff team ambassador, Jon McAlister, who completed a 60 mile bike ride.
The campaign depicts a Starting Block as a person, place or moment that inspired you to become who you are today and so, Jon decided to cycle from his home in Wigan to Manchester and back again, choosing the route as Manchester is where his journey with Baker Mallett began and his career in the construction industry. He raised over £400 for the Trust, and we are incredibly proud of him for getting us off to such a strong start.
Jon said
“The day itself was a real mixture of emotions. Doing it on my own made it a real personal challenge and I had plenty of opportunity to think about what I was doing and who I was doing it for. I really enjoyed the day and I would do it again in a heartbeat! In the last few miles my legs went and I was struggling a bit but thinking of the people I was helping and those that sponsored me helped me get through to the end.”
During the next 12 months, we will be ‘passing the baton’ amongst the internal team here at Baker Mallett and to key contacts within the construction industry to celebrate each individual/team taking on a challenge of their own.
Whilst it’s great to celebrate the moments that made us, our main aim is to highlight some of the key social issues in the UK and go some way to providing support to aid their solutions.
